Yes that’s it Google have released another update and to be honest its a pretty sensible one as more and more of your traffic on the internet is now entering via a mobile device. Skeuomorphic design

Well the other week when “Apple” announced the upcoming “iOS 7″ was being released later this year a strange and wonderful word was banded around… Skeuomorphic design…What the? It seems that this is the thing which “Apple” are trying to come away from in their latest UI design, so I know it is an epic! and hench! word but basically its what they are trying to shelve. So what is “Skeuomorphic”? To start with it has been an age old challenge to design and create things which reflect real life as closely as possible, this is the basis of Skeuomorphic or making stuff look like stuff. If you produce a button on […]

Shop Locally for Your Website and save thousands!

Just to make people aware… I have just had a look at the Yell Business website and I can’t believe that they offer you a website for such an expensive package. Check it out via this link – http://business.yell.com/websites/ So you have to pay £399 upfront and then £65 per month after this which amounts to £1179 in your first year, this sounds a little pricey to me but thousands of small businesses take them up on it. Not only that but you will then carry on paying £780 every year to keep it going. So why don’t businesses go with small local webdesign companies to sort out their on-line presence […]

The Sorbrook web design action plan

We are not sure if we do things differently but when we do work on websites for our clients we are often told that we offer that personal touch and that we take the time to research what they do to get a real insight. This being the case I thought it was a good idea to put out there what our current action plan is when we come to create a new website. So take a look at our 9 point action plan below and see if this is what you think is what should happen when you have a website made. Lets have a chat, grab a coffee […]

Creating for the Hotel Industry

What a year it has been so far! Late last year we were lucky enough to secure 3 website design requests from some amazing hotels around the country, which I personally thought was fantastic for our growing business and gives Sorbrook some vital creative and technical ability to offer the same service to other Hotels, B&B’s and Holiday homes. With these new clients we have not only created brand and webdesign but we have had to integrate booking systems, all three of which opted for the Freetobook platform initially. This was our first encounter with Freetobook and after connecting with them on social networks and exchanging emails they have now […]

After receiving training in various forms for both work and my volunteer activities I have now made the bold decision to give something back and realise the dream of being able to train and teach people what I do. 3D websites

Back in March Firefox upgraded its developer tools to be more in-line with other browsers favoured by developers and designers out there. But they added something quite amazing in addition which renders the site you are looking at in 3 dimensions, this is pretty cool and you can really see a new perspective to the web and maybe new possibilities in how we may all be creating websites in the future. The images below are screen shots from my own 3D Website….OK its just my normal website but as viewed with the “Page Inspector 3D View” in Mozilla Firefox. Enjoy and have a look at your own 3d website through […]

Google Apps… whats so great about that?

I started looking at Google Apps a few Months ago when a client of mine was raving about it and how it has so much for so little money, or in some cases for FREE*. So whats on offer? We all should know of the FREE* offerings from Google such as Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Docs, now think of them all integrated together and under your domain name and all for… FREE*!… Pretty cool eh! Now the FREE* version only allows you to have 10 email accounts (which is ample for a small business or organisation) and the email inbox size is limited to around 2gb which for most […]

Creative design with WordPress is brilliant!

I thought I would write this blog just to say how much creating websites has advanced and how platforms like WordPress and all of the other free source content management solutions make it so helpful to create really enticing and interactive websites. Now I started looking at webdesign back in the days of “Supanet” and “Freeserve”, well around 2001 for those who don’t remember these internet service providers. I can remember creating my first website using a packaged programme from one of these companies, which I thought looked great and did the bare basics of letting potential customers know how to get hold of you.
