Facebook “Like Box” is due to disappear!

I have seen and created sites which utilise the Facebook “Like Box” to engage with people on a website to urge people to like a Facebook page. If used well these can not only display your number of likes and faces of the people that like your page but they also can display your post feed and tell you if any of your friends like the page also. Well The Facebook Like Box is about to be no more! With the release of Facebook Graph APi v2.3 the Like Box plugin will become deprecated and thousands if not millions of websites around the world will end up with a blank […]

Skeuomorphic design

Well the other week when “Apple” announced the upcoming “iOS 7″ was being released later this year a strange and wonderful word was banded around… Skeuomorphic design…What the? It seems that this is the thing which “Apple” are trying to come away from in their latest UI design, so I know it is an epic! and hench! word but basically its what they are trying to shelve. So what is “Skeuomorphic”? To start with it has been an age old challenge to design and create things which reflect real life as closely as possible, this is the basis of Skeuomorphic or making stuff look like stuff. If you produce a button on […]

Do you really need to post at certain times?

An interesting metric for you, with Facebook pages you now can see how many people have seen your post and it also gives you details about your most popular post. Now I was expecting the most popular post would have been in the evening or at the weekend as the page I was managing was for a band, but surprisingly it was at 2pm in the afternoon on a Wednesday. The post received over 500 views which was thanks to lots of people sharing it and I guess it was also down to the content which was pretty exiting at the time. Just shows that the research done on ideal […]

Zeebox, could it be a good thing for business!

Here’s a little nugget for you, I have been playing around with Apps lately after acquiring some lovely gadgetry and I came across Zeebox. I have seen the TV adverts with the big man as the TV and the little man as Zeebox and that it is designed to let you interact with your favourite tv shows via social media. Well what I didn’t expect was that this app would in fact bump up my followers on twitter quite considerably, so starting to receive up to around 20 new followers a week just from simply making comments on my favourite TV shows. I guess dependant on your industry you could make informed comments and […]

Pinterest…The next big thing for 2012

Well according to some this has been around since 2006 and has had a steady following until early last year when interest (or Pinterest) for the site started to explode and by early this year Pinterest was looking down the barrel of over 10 million unique visitors in US. To read more information about this follow the link below: http://techcrunch.com/2012/02/07/pinterest-monthly-uniques/ Now this is breaking records for the speed that an individual site has broken the 10 million mark but what is it all about? So let me share my experience as I begin exploring. Started using Pinterest today after receiving a very kind invite from a member of Banbury Business […]

The Power of the Infographic

Having worked alongside Steve for a couple of weeks now, it has become more obvious to me just how much “stuff” is created everyday on the internet. When you break it down to a 24 hour period, each day 249 billion emails are sent and received, 2 million blogs are posted, Facebook is visited 172 million times, with 250 million new pictures posted each day. (http://www.mbaonline.com/) These numbers are only going to increase. So how is all this data dealt with so that it’s not just a mass of uninterpretable digits? Businesses are continually being told that understanding their data is key to success, but how can this be done efficiently? This is where […]

Creating for the Hotel Industry

What a year it has been so far! Late last year we were lucky enough to secure 3 website design requests from some amazing hotels around the country, which I personally thought was fantastic for our growing business and gives Sorbrook some vital creative and technical ability to offer the same service to other Hotels, B&B’s and Holiday homes. With these new clients we have not only created brand and webdesign but we have had to integrate booking systems, all three of which opted for the Freetobook platform initially. This was our first encounter with Freetobook and after connecting with them on social networks and exchanging emails they have now […]

“OPEN SOURCE” Creativity

So what is “OPEN SOURCE”? Well as most of you know there is a huge amount of free applications, software and general stuff out there in the cloud and this tends to be known as “Open Source” or more loosely known as ….FREE! But this does not mean it is substandard as in some respects Open Source can mean that development wise you could have millions of people creating content and code for one platform in their spare time for no pay. So in the realms of creativity is there such a thing as “Open Creativity”? Well some companies allow their designers to take a day per week or per […]

Do you know your local Banbury brands?

So here’s a bit of fun for you  to see if you recognise the brands which you see locally around our Town of Banbury. Some of these brands will look familiar and you may be racking your brains to what they are, this is due to you seeing them over and over again without even realising it. The other reason why you may not be able to quite put your finger on the brands is because they have been cut down. This takes away the original shape that your brain used to recognise though still leaves some small trial of which is still familiar. The Test… Now there is no […]
