Skeuomorphic design

Well the other week when “Apple” announced the upcoming “iOS 7″ was being released later this year a strange and wonderful word was banded around… Skeuomorphic design…What the? It seems that this is the thing which “Apple” are trying to come away from in their latest UI design, so I know it is an epic! and hench! word but basically its what they are trying to shelve. So what is “Skeuomorphic”? To start with it has been an age old challenge to design and create things which reflect real life as closely as possible, this is the basis of Skeuomorphic or making stuff look like stuff. If you produce a button on […]

The Sorbrook web design action plan

We are not sure if we do things differently but when we do work on websites for our clients we are often told that we offer that personal touch and that we take the time to research what they do to get a real insight. This being the case I thought it was a good idea to put out there what our current action plan is when we come to create a new website. So take a look at our 9 point action plan below and see if this is what you think is what should happen when you have a website made. Lets have a chat, grab a coffee […]

Companies that don’t do their homework…

Getting an inbox full of company’s offering you services from a far away country? Offering prices so amazing that your jaw drops? And hang on a minute…. its exactly what you do!!! This has happened to me over the last few days and admittedly most of these emails that end up in you info@ mail box tend to be from real dodgy types looking to increase the size or lengthen the you know what….. But hey sometimes some of these are from outfits that look like they are what they are. My issue is with a company that not only send an email from a reputable looking company but also look like […]

Zeebox, could it be a good thing for business!

Here’s a little nugget for you, I have been playing around with Apps lately after acquiring some lovely gadgetry and I came across Zeebox. I have seen the TV adverts with the big man as the TV and the little man as Zeebox and that it is designed to let you interact with your favourite tv shows via social media. Well what I didn’t expect was that this app would in fact bump up my followers on twitter quite considerably, so starting to receive up to around 20 new followers a week just from simply making comments on my favourite TV shows. I guess dependant on your industry you could make informed comments and […]

Business owner or entrepreneur…is there a difference?

My first blog in months! and I thought it was only right to write about what has been keeping me away from updating my content for so long. Well it has now been a year since I created my business “Sorbrook” and things have gone from strength to strength though now I am starting to be even more creative in what I am doing and having to shift priorities and ways that I do business. My client base has matured over the last year and the people I now do business with are more than just business acquaintances, I feel they are more like a business family. This has become […]

Pinterest…The next big thing for 2012

Well according to some this has been around since 2006 and has had a steady following until early last year when interest (or Pinterest) for the site started to explode and by early this year Pinterest was looking down the barrel of over 10 million unique visitors in US. To read more information about this follow the link below: http://techcrunch.com/2012/02/07/pinterest-monthly-uniques/ Now this is breaking records for the speed that an individual site has broken the 10 million mark but what is it all about? So let me share my experience as I begin exploring. Started using Pinterest today after receiving a very kind invite from a member of Banbury Business […]

The Power of the Infographic

Having worked alongside Steve for a couple of weeks now, it has become more obvious to me just how much “stuff” is created everyday on the internet. When you break it down to a 24 hour period, each day 249 billion emails are sent and received, 2 million blogs are posted, Facebook is visited 172 million times, with 250 million new pictures posted each day. (http://www.mbaonline.com/) These numbers are only going to increase. So how is all this data dealt with so that it’s not just a mass of uninterpretable digits? Businesses are continually being told that understanding their data is key to success, but how can this be done efficiently? This is where […]

Is the introduction of NFC around the corner?

NFC is a technology being spoken about a lot at the moment , but is it likely to be implemented into smartphones any time soon? Speculations of the potential of NFC have been whispered to consumers, and large corporations, like Sony and Blackberry, seem to be moving in to intergrate it into their hardware. So what is NFC? It’s a method of data transfer which is entirely contactless. Although similar tech has been used for some time now, like TFL’s Oyster cards, Near Field Communication has the capabilities for “sharing, pairing, and transaction”. (unlike the RFID chips of Oyster cards which are one-way only). There are some exciting and innovative things planned for […]

From Dinning Table to New Office – Stepping up in Business

The 2nd of September saw a massive change for Sorbrook since 2011 when I started the business. The time has come to move forward from my small corner of the dinning room with all its creature comforts of home and becoming a real company, with a real  new office, real working hours and a new focus on business. Now on day 3 of being within my new office, things seem strange and I am trying to come to terms with the differences of what I came to know as the norm when working from home. The regular distractions of home have now gone and work is easier to concentrate on […]
